About Paintball Arena

Copenhagen Paintball Arena opened in October 2003 and is one of the largest indoor paintball facilities in Denmark. Located at the former B&W shipyard on Refshaleøen in Amager, we are also one of the most centrally located paintball venues in Copenhagen.

About Paintball Arena

In 2005, we expanded with a new event hall, offering a wide range of entertaining activities suitable for all ages. This expansion allows us to host a variety of events, including corporate events, bachelor parties, birthdays, Christmas parties, private group events, and team-building sessions.

We are located just a 7-minute walk from the final stop of bus 2A. Our 6,000 m² indoor event hall and 6,000 m² outdoor area provide ample space for fun and active experiences for friends, colleagues, classmates, or family. If you want to combine your event with a boat ride, you can take the harbor ferry, which departs from Nordre Toldbod and sails directly to Refshaleøen, where it is an 11-minute walk to Copenhagen Paintball Arena.

B&W Halls – A Piece of Danish Industrial History

Paintball Arena is located in the southern half of the B&W Halls, originally known as S1, as well as in the adjacent outdoor area. Following World War II, B&W became one of the world’s leading shipyards and Denmark’s largest employer during its peak in the 1960s, employing 12,000 workers.

New buildings were gradually added, including the S1 and S2 section halls, which are 65 and 75 meters high. These halls, where Paintball Arena and Urban Ranger Camp are now based, were completed in the early 1960s.

One of the major innovations of these halls was the ability to assemble large ship sections indoors, revolutionizing the efficiency and construction of massive ships.

The B&W Halls remained an active shipyard until 1996 and are now recognized as a significant part of Danish industrial history. Due to their historical importance, the B&W Halls are officially listed as heritage buildings by the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces.

How Paintball Started

Interestingly, the paintball gun existed before the sport itself. Initially, the paintball marker was used for marking trees and livestock with permanent oil-based paint.

However, in June 1981, Bob Gurnsey, Hayes Noel, and Charles Gaines saw the potential for a new sport and created the first paintball game and official paintball rules.

The first recorded game was played with 12 participants using Nel-Spot 007 pistols. The surprising winner was a woodsman, who won without firing a single shot.
